January 2007
Even just to recount open houses from this past month, space would be cramped.

This year I think a busy November prepared us for December, which easily surpassed one of my favorite months of the year. I’ve never seen Christmas arrive so quickly. Although it’s not here yet as I write this, it’s certainly on every street corner and house in my neighborhood.

Working backward, I’ll mention the open house at Hacienda los Santos, an event that showed off the huge house just off the Marina Vallarta Golf Course to its best advantage: full of people, food and activity. De Santos catered the event and mariachi played out in the open air next to the geometric pool. Everyone seemed to recognize this as the event of the evening and they were on their best behavior. Represented by La Punta Realty, contact them at (329) 291-6420 for more information on this lively property.

The previous week the open house of the moment was at Rio Amapas with the first completed home ready for viewing. This luxury development five minutes south of town is on the hill with incredible views of the jungle and Banderas Bay. The gated community will feature three- and four-bedroom contemporary villas of very deluxe appointments, private pools, a Jacuzzi in every bathroom and concierge service. The indoor-outdoor design by EcoPacific offers unique contact with nature with comfort as a prime focus. Represented by Tropicasa Realty, Alfredo Covarrubias organized the open house and can be contacted at (322) 222-6505 for more information.

That same week a heavily attended open house in Punta de Mita was offered by Playa Mita Realty’s Miroslava Guerra with Rod and Mary Ingram. The interior design of the two units ready for viewing draws attention to the opening of their two furniture divisions this week. Imported pieces from Morocco, India and Malaysia mix well with art from Mexico and Latin America. As the sun set over the ocean, the illuminated interiors showed off the colorful hand-embroidered throws and spreads used generously in an interesting contemporary design. Contact Playa Mita Realty at (329) 291-6482 for furniture as well as their Playa Amor property.

Amapas was abuzz at a prior open house at the hillside Quinta Cresencia with a sunset fashion show presented by Tuti of Bohemia. The elegant hacienda-style property, represented by Venegas World Star Realty, came alive with candles, lights, food and drink, people and music. The luxury private gated villa demonstrated its functionality as both a boutique hotel and a venue for events, providing a view of the entire bay as well as the mountains and city. Contact Mark Venegas at (322) 222-2111 for more information.

Sherri Narro opened the Casa Mis Rocas on the Mismaloya highway for agent viewing recently. The 4.5 bedroom modern Mediterranean-style villa has wheelchair access from the garage as well as elevator service between floors and integrated service quarters. Recently redone, the pool overlooks Banderas Bay with a view of Los Arcos Rock Formation. Just off the pool is a pleasant bar area featuring a sculpture of the Rat Pack. Furnishings throughout are an eclectic mix of contemporary modern with Mexican art, pottery and color. For a viewing, contact Sherri of Puerto Vallarta Dream Homes at (322) 228-0584.

Some of the notable real estate events I missed include the inauguration of the Belaire Complex, represented by Prudential Realty as well as a pre-holiday posada Prudential had at Boca Bento in the Romantic Zone. Organizer Nicole Martin reports that Broker Tere Kimball and Hector González each gave motivational speeches followed by a spirited dance. The theme “Grow with Prudential” was represented by a flower arrangement in a watering can container. Cute.

At the recent Vallarta Film Festival, representatives of Yoo by Philippe Starck were handing out flyers to indicate the impending presence of his design firm in conjunction with The Related Group, a real estate developer from the US. Watch for announcements, undoubtedly due any day. Back to the festivals of November, despite the busy real estate season, I must say I was impressed by the numbers of real estate agents and brokers I saw involved in some of the best we have to offer in Vallarta. Keep busy, keep smiling.
